These Are 12 Countries Whose People Enjoy Reading Books in the Library

In fact, The Future of Jobs Report 2018 by the World Economic Forum shows that in 2022 the demand for skills will shift towards skills that can be cultivated through reading.

Reading books can be done by buying books in bookstores or borrowing them from the library. More effectively, reading can be done by borrowing books from the library.

Recently, the World Economic Forum released data on 12 cities in the world that have the highest number of library book borrowers. This data was collected by the World Cities Culture Forum . The following is a list of the twelve cities.

1. Tokyo, Japan

Every year, 111.9 million books in Tokyo libraries are borrowed by residents. This makes Tokyo the number one city in the world that lends the most books to residents. In fact, Tokyo is the only city that has managed to reach hundreds of millions of books lent in the world.

That’s really cool, this value is fantastic for the population of Tokyo which only reaches around 14.1 million people. The large libraries in Tokyo City include the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library, Akasaka Library, and Shinjuku-ward Okubo Library.

2. Shanghai, China

Shanghai is one of the largest cities in China. In this city there are many large universities, including Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Fudan University. Every year, 86.2 million books in Shanghai libraries are borrowed by residents.

The Shanghai Library is the largest library in the city. The library even won the title of being the tallest library in the world, reaching 106 meters in height. That’s really great, never mind that the library is the highest, the number of books that have been lent out is also very high!

3. New York, United States

This is very different from in Indonesia, yes. Many cities in Indonesia still only have one public library. The more libraries there are, the more types of books are provided.

Of course this will provoke people to increase their interest in reading. This is what happened in one of the largest and most developed cities in the world, New York.

4. Hongkong, Hongkong

5. Los Angeles, United States

There are various large libraries in the city nicknamed Angeltown, including the Los Angeles Central Library, Fairfax Branch Library and John C. Fremont Branch Library. Each year, 44.2 million books in Los Angeles libraries are borrowed by residents.

6. Singapura, Singapura

Singapore is the only city in Southeast Asia to be included in this list. Even though the size of the city of Singapore is very small, there are many public libraries in this city. Among them are Yishun Public Library, Central Public Library and National Library.

In Singapore, 33 million books in various libraries are borrowed by residents every year. This figure is very surprising considering the population of the city of Singapore which only reaches 3.5 million residents. This means that almost everyone borrows 10 books per year. 7. Moscow, Russia

In this city, 30.3 million books are borrowed every year by local residents.

8. Toronto, Canada

The largest library in Tornoto City is the Tornoto Reference Library. Apart from being the largest library, this library is also one of the largest library systems in the world.

Every year Tornoto residents have very high enthusiasm when it comes to borrowing books from the library. Every year 30.2 million books are borrowed by the population.

9. Melbourne, Australia

11. Seoul, South Korea

Seoul is the fifth city in Asia to be included in this list. The city which is famous for the KPop Wave is in fact also the city with the most library books lent to its residents.

The three best libraries in this city include the Seoul Metropolitan Library, Jeongdok Public Library and the National Library of Korea. Apart from liking listening to music, Seoul residents also like reading books. This is proven by the 26 million books that Seoul residents borrow from various libraries every year.

12. London, England

These are 12 countries whose people enjoy reading books in the library

The British capital is included in the latest list released by the World Economic Forum. In fact, this city with many favorite football clubs is also the country with the largest number of library books borrowed by local residents.

There are many large public libraries in the city, some of which are the Westminister Reference Library, Kensington Central Library and Bethnal Green Library. Every year as many as 25.8 million books are borrowed by local residents.

Those are 12 countries that have very rapid library growth. That’s really cool, hopefully many cities in Indonesia can follow suit soon.
