When Marc Marquez Was Still a Beginner, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo Were Considered Better

MotoGP news update. Gresini Racing rider Marc Marquez recounts his memories of being a rookie in the premier MotoGP class.

Marc Marquez is currently in better condition after deciding to leave Repsol Honda with one season left on his contract.

Joining Gresini Racing, the racer nicknamed Baby Alien performed better even though he was using last year’s version of the Ducati motorbike.

In contrast to the four podiums achieved in the main race session, Marquez now has new hope of becoming world champion again.

The reason is that for the upcoming 2025 MotoGP, the winner of eight world championship titles will ride for the Ducati factory team.

Previously, many people felt that Marquez’s career was over following his decision to leave Repsol Honda.

Marquez’s mentality is also considered different since he had a fatal accident in the 2020 season and the presence of young riders.

There is no denying that young riders like Pedro Acosta (GASGAS Tech3) and Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) have changed that.

Their approach not only reflects their age and lack of experience in the top class of MotoGP.

Marquez felt the same thing when he first competed in the kings class with Repsol Honda in the 2013 season.

Being in a champion-labeled team like Honda and being the great tandem rider of Dani Pedrosa made Marquez only trust his instincts.

As a rookie or newcomer, the rider from Spain uses instinct as a guide to perform with nothing to lose.

“When you arrive in this category at 20 years old, you just trust your natural instincts,” said Marquez.

“You are competing with big names and you have nothing to lose,” he added, as reported by BolaSport.com from the Motosan page.

Furthermore, Marquez also felt that this still emerged and was shown by young racers, even though at a different rhythm.

Acosta, Martin and even Francesco Bagnaia, who has dominated the MotoGP class with Ducati for the last two seasons, appear more natural with their racing instincts.

“Now, the young riders come with a different rhythm, without injuries and with a natural instinct,” said Marquez.

“When I follow Acosta, Martin or even Bagnaia, they ride naturally,” he added.

The owner of number 93 is fully aware that this is part of the process that every athlete experiences.

Even when Marquez was a rookie, he certainly understood that Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo were better riders than him.

Every athlete has their own momentum where they are at their peak until they slowly face the obstacle of declining performance.

“I understand that this is a natural process in the life of every athlete,” said Marquez.

“It’s not like Marquez was better than Lorenzo and Rossi when he appeared, that year he was better.”

“But every athlete has their moments, and when you peak, you have to push yourself even harder.”

“If you can do that, you have a longer career ahead of you.”

“I don’t know if the downturn has started for me or if it’s going to take another year or two or three years.”

“We’ll find out in about five years,” he added.
