Racing Against Time: Here’s How MotoGP Delivers Logistics from Misano to Mandalika in Just 3 Days

MotoGP Indonesia will be held again at the Mandalika Circuit, September 27-29, 2024. Racing fans in the country must be impatient to watch. However, did Bolaneters know that there was a drama that pushed Dorna Sports to work extra hard to send the entire team’s equipment on time to Lombok?

Dorna only has three days to make it happen. Because all of this equipment will be used first in the Emilia Romagna MotoGP at the Misano Circuit, September 20-22, 2024. This drama is inevitably caused by the cancellation of the Indian and Kazakhstan MotoGPs at the same time.

The Indian Series was originally scheduled for September 20-22, 2024, but was canceled due to budget constraints. This date was then taken over by Kazakhstan. However, the Kazakhstan Series was also canceled due to unprepared infrastructure. Misano, which had already held the San Marino Series on September 6-8, 2024, is willing to replace it.

Dorna Sports Creates Efficient ‘Choreography’

However, this actually creates new obstacles. The journey to send logistics to Mandalika becomes longer because it has to start from Italy, which is around 12,000 km. Dorna also has to think hard so that all logistics arrive in Mandalika as soon as possible on September 24, 2024 and no later than September 25, 2024.

On Tuesday (17/9/2024), Motorsport.com reported that Dorna’s Operations Director, Carles Jorba, had designed a special ‘choreography’. “We don’t want to compromise the public’s enjoyment,” said the Spaniard, who then explained in detail the steps his party had to take.

So, how does Dorna send logistics and equipment for MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 from Misano to Mandalika in just three days? Here are the steps as reported by Motorsport.com. Check it out!

7 Stages of MotoGP Logistics Delivery from Misano to Mandalika

1) MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 teams are required to start packing their equipment into cargo boxes on Sunday (22/9/2024) at 12.50 local time, exactly ten minutes before the start of the main MotoGP race.

2) At 14:30 local time, approximately 45 minutes after the main MotoGP race finishes, fans participating in the track invasion session will be evacuated to ensure the Misano Circuit area is sterile.

3) The cargo boxes of the MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 teams are then loaded onto trucks within an hour. After that, the trucks will travel by land for six hours to Malpensa Airport, Milan, Italy.

Previously Using Boeing 747, Now Using Boeing 777

4) Upon arrival at Malpensa Airport, all cargo was inspected by airport authorities before being loaded properly onto five Boeing 777 aircraft. This process took six hours. In previous years, Dorna used four Boeing 747 aircraft and it took 12 hours to load the cargo onto the aircraft.

5) The first aircraft is scheduled to take off from Malpensa Airport on Monday (23/9/2024) at 13.00 local time to Doha, Qatar, before being sent to Lombok. The aircraft is scheduled to arrive at Lombok International Airport on Tuesday (24/9/2024) at 11.15 WITA.

When Will Logistics Arrive at the Mandalika Circuit?

6) The fifth or last plane, is scheduled to take off from Malpensa Airport on Tuesday (24/9/2024) at 17.00 local time to Doha, before being sent to Lombok. This plane is scheduled to arrive at Lombok International Airport on Wednesday (25/9/2024) at 15.00 WITA.

7) Upon arrival at Lombok International Airport, all cargo is unloaded from the aircraft, transferred to smaller trucks and taken to the Mandalika Circuit by land.

Well, those are the stages of logistics and equipment delivery for MotoGP, Moto2, and Moto3 from Misano to Mandalika. Hopefully the 2024 Indonesian Grand Prix will run smoothly, Bolaneters!
