1. Library of Congress (United States)
Not only is it the largest library, the Library of Congress has the largest book collection in the world.
The Library of Congress has a collection of books in 450 languages from all over the world, two-thirds of the total books obtained for this library’s collection are in non-English foreign languages.
As of the end of 2018, the Library of Congress had around 38 million printed literature collections, 3.6 million sound recordings, 14 million image collections, 70 million rare manuscripts, and 5.5 million maps.
2. British Library (England)
The British Library is the largest library in England, and the second largest after the Library of Congress in the United States.
The location of this library is strategic because it is located in the Euston Road area, London and is one of the main research libraries that has been established since 1973.
The British Library has the most important historical collections including:
Rare manuscripts of Sir Hans Sloane and Robert Jarley and collections from the King’s Library collected by King George III and the Old Royal Library.
The British Library’s online collection is also very complete with a collection of more than 30,000 images from ancient and Medieval books, to Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks.
3. New York Public Library (United States)
Apart from the Library of Congress , the United States also has the New York Public Library, which is the third largest library in the world and the second largest in the United States.
The New York Public Library is a magnificent and very comfortable building, and is visited by more than 18 million visitors annually.
There are 87 New York Public Library branches throughout the city, with 39 in Manhattan, 35 in the Bronx, and the remainder on Staten Island.
4. Library and Archives Canada (Canada)
In 2018, Library and Archives Canada housed more than 20 million book collections, with 24 million image collections and 1,000 TB of digital data.
Several important Canadian documents are stored in the form of online data, for example the proclamation of the Canadian Constitution Act and the British North America Act.
5. Russian State Library (Russia)
The Russian State Library was founded on July 1, 1862 and is the oldest library in Moscow.
There are around 44 million collections stored in it, such as 17 million book collections, 13 million journals, and document collections consisting of 247 different languages.
